The Behind the Scene Workers-Get the Job Done

Organizing and Cleaning Tips and Hints
Why was the name Secretary's Day changed to Professional Day?
I don't really know the real reason, but I have a few guesses;
Because secretary's are one of the most underrated professionals around,
Because there are more behind the scene workers in an office that don't get recognition that they deserve,
Because the under-staff works 12 hours a day during an 8 hour shift and
It would take more than 365 days in order to recognize all of the efforts of these people and all that they contribute to a thriving business.
It is true the President, managers and everyone else in the executive branch all have high qualifications and an important role, but these are the people that 'make it all happen'. The teamwork that goes on is remarkable.
Who gets the credit all year for the success of a business; the executives.
Who gets the notoriety; with awards, press coverage and extra benefits and bonuses; the executives.
This is the one day of the year that the under-staff can possibly hope to get a 'thank you' at the very least for a job well done. This is when bosses should sit down with every one of them and tell them what a great job they are doing, how much they are an asset and see to it that they receive a bonus in the form of something special that is designed just for them.
Now what could that 'something special' be:
A day off with pay (used at the person's choice of day)
A trip to the beauty salon or barbershop
How about a meal out at a nice restaurant
An award or trophy
A raise
The list is endless and they probably deserve more than the company can afford to give them, but it is the thought that counts. However, it is something that should be personal enough to let them know that you didn't go out and purchase the same thing for every employee. A good boss 'knows' their employees!
In conjunction with that, why not make a wall of appreciation? Take the pictures of all of your employees and title your wall 'Our Faithful Workers' or 'Our Behind-the-Scenes' Team. Let the world know how valuable these people are and how much they are appreciated.
An employee that knows that all of their hard work and effort is appreciated will put out 110% more for the company than one that feels overlooked.
Who benefits the most from this acknowledgement?
The company---
Your employee will work harder, longer and more on task for an employer that appreciates them
Your employee will arrive at other ways of improving your business and saving you money
Your employee will tell everyone what a great company they work for, giving you more PR than the best newspaper. Don't forget, word-of-mouth is still the best advertising.
The Employee—
They now know that all of their work is recognized
They don't mine working harder in the 'tight crunches'.
They feel value, being an asset and appreciated and will do everything in their power to live up to your expectations.
It is now time to go out and start to appreciate the Professionals in your business. Show them you care and that you recognize the work that they do, after all; it is a win-win situation.
If you need to, just think back to how things were going in that office or work place without that employee, what special things did they bring to the workplace and how much have they changed the work environment. You evidently value their work or they wouldn't sill be employed with your company—now it is time to show them.

Top-level comments on this article: (2 total)I'll agree with one thing there are a few behind the scene workers who get the job done for everyone. Actually just doing your job doesn't merit anything. You receive pay to do that and your character speaks to how well you do it. In reality many who are carried along also share in the hard work of those few. Sorry, if the truth offends but it is everywhere today. Be happy with a good review and a sincere acknowledgement of your efforts and in my opinion they can keep the dinner and give me an extra nickel. You are right about one thing there is always the few doing the most.
Thank you for your comment; it sounds as though you have been there! I do agree that there are others that ride the coat tails that also get credit for work that they don't do or haven't contributed to. As you say there are some in every work place. Don't you wish the bosses would recognize it?
