Organizing and Cleaning Tips and Hints

Morningitis is a very common ailment; about 77% (the percentage is higher if you have kids) of us have it and there is not a magic pill that will make it go away.

What are the symptoms?

Normally this would come under a time management problem, but this is part of a much larger ailment; it is called, disorganization.

The fact that all of us try to pack so much into our days causes stress which causes depression which causes another mega dose of disorganization.

Is it hopeless? Is there a way out? Is there a book I can read?

To answer all of your questions in one sentence; Your not a hopeless case and with a little help you can be 100% cured.

Why is it that we start out every morning with the feeling that we have to hurry? Do you constantly feel that you are running late and always behind the point that you would like to be at? Are you stressed before you get out of bed?

Our morning routines really do not exist. We think we have a set routine but in reality all we are doing is going through the motions of what we think needs to get done before our 'real' day starts. By planning ahead and organizing our time and space we learn that we have been spinning our wheels most of the time and not really accomplishing much of anything. We sometimes get further behind and more stressed out than if we would have done nothing at all.

How do we change this vicious cycle of lack of time, disorganization, and clutter all over our world and stress builders?

We set goals. Plain and simple! We do this in other areas of our lives; we set a goal to paint the house, to go out to dinner, to make appointments with people for business, and to get the car repaired. However, we do not have a goal for managing our lives.

Morning stress can set the way the rest of the day is going to go, we decide in what frame of mind that we are going to function for the rest of the day. If we are stressed-we are going to be stressed and hyper all day, if we are behind on our schedule-we are never going to catch up, if we feel like we forgot something-we are going to be looking for it the rest of the day; we cause our lives to be malfunctioning and to stay that way.

What can we do to get rid of all of this stress and get our lives organized?

Don't try to come up with the answer all on your own, you are part of a family and it should be a family decision. Get everyone together and ask them what the worst part of 'morning' is for them? What seems to be slowing them down in the morning? Explain that working together all of you are going to try to change the morning routine-for the better! To begin with, you may want to try it out on a weekend to see how well it works. This is your starting point; it could be someone taking too long in the bathroom—that person uses the bathroom last or if they leave early, they will have to get up earlier; it could be not knowing what to wear—get your clothes out at night etc.

Organizing a morning routine is a great way to start your day. Everyone in the family goes about their own schedule and you achieve your goals of the morning and leave the house with a smile on your face, knowing that everything is in control.
